Sunday 22nd November2015With the Captain away in Mancunian Land and the Vice picking up anybody that would get in his cab, it was left to 2 past Captains to step in. Mikki and Russ took on El Presidente and Grandpa Wilford. The old boys took an early lead, going 3 up after 2 holes. With a struggle we started clawing our way back winning on the 9th, 22-20. Lovely day, great company, till the next battle! As this week was spare the past Capt Russ donated a litre bottle of The Famous Grouse and the comp became: “The Whiskey Chase". Well it all started at minus 3 degrees and was no shock when Andy M turned up with the legs covered below the knees for the first time this year (Yes his plus4s turned up)….so it must have been cold. A good turnout considering with nearly 50% of the club freezing but now all ready to play for the bottle of winter warmer. Looking at the cards a few of the members were wanting to take the prize home El Presidente being the early leader with a magnificent birdie on the 2nd his 2nd shot got him to his preferred putting distance (any distance more than a foot away from the hole). The other person chasing the bottle and no one will be surprised with this was Dan Garland. Well Dan picked up a birdie on 5 and El Presidente blobbed 3 after his birdie but parred 5. So after 5 holes it was a 2 point lead for El Presidente. Unfortunately even with Dan parring 3 of the last 4 holes El Presidente held onto his lead by 1 point to win the “The Whiskey Chase”. El Presidente's winning comment was my bottle at home is about to run out ….what more of an incentive do you need.
Sunday 15th November2015It was the Dave Langford Trophy today with double points on two holes and because Stephen is away at the moment working up north Mr. Langford kindly stepped in to the Skippers shoes for the day taking on Mr. Wilfort and Mr. Prior in the Captains challenge. After the 1st we were a point up after Dave and John took Par with me blowing out and Mick taking a 5. But they came straight back as they made Par on the 2nd and us only a bogey. But then my game clicked into gear as I went Par through the next 4 holes securing 11pts for Dave and myself were as the opposition could only manage 9pts with 3 bogeys and a Par putting us 2pts in front. I cocked up the 7th by taking a six but my compadre Dave made a bogey 5 but with his double points because of his handicap that was for 3pts and with John and Mick only making bogey and taking 2pts we were up another point. Onto the 8th and leading by 3pts Dave and myself teed off with Dave ending up in the ditch and myself over on the left in the first cut. And similar rolls for John and Mick as Mick finished up in the ditch and John with a good drive down the middle leaving around 195 yards to the flag. After Dave and Mick hacked out of the ditch and then took their 3rd shots coming up short of the green it was left to John and myself to take our 2nd shots. Good strike by John coming up short to the left of the green. My turn 181 yards to the pin, 5 wood struck the well straight at the flag bouncing just before the green and finishing 3 foot past the hole and after a good putt the ball was in the hole for a birdie 4 and with John making bogey for 2pts we were 5pts in front going down the last. And with Dave taking a bogey on the last matching our opponents bogey we won the challenge by 25pts to 20pts. Well played guys, a good match and thanks for the extra £5 donation from Dave for the Captains charity. Dave Langford Trophy result Unfortunately there wasn't as big a turn out today as I would have liked for Dave's Trophy with only 14 people managing to turn out however we still had a good comp. Well done to Richard who won the Langford Trophy today coming in with 25pts and was 4 shots clear of his nearest competitor. Mr. Langford has kindly left you 2 bottles of red in locker 1a which Steve will give you next week. Well done mate

Vice Capt ReportVice/Viking challenge took place yesterday with Thomas standing in for the skipper against Jim and Colin It all started off well and I went par through the first 4 holes and we managed to get ahead of Jim and Colin but as my game faltered and the Viking not on tip top form after a night of plundering and pillaging around the west coast they managed to get ahead and eventually turn us over by 2pts. Well done guys well deserved. Next week is the Dave Langford Trophy so a good turnout please for our ex secretary. 9 hole Stableford with double points on 2 holes.
